Where does Blue Pearl granite come from?

Blue Pearl granite is quarried in southern Norway, in the Larvik region on the Oslofjord. Geologically it is a larvikite rather than a true granite — the shimmering blue-silver flash that gives it its name comes from feldspar crystals that reflect light at certain angles, an effect called schiller. That is why the colour appears to shift as you walk past it and why a photograph never quite captures it. The Norwegian quarries have been working this stone since the nineteenth century.

Why does Blue Pearl granite look different in every photo?

Because the blue is an optical effect, not a pigment. The feldspar crystals in larvikite reflect light directionally, so the same slab reads deep blue from one angle and grey from another, and changes again under warm versus cool lighting. This is the single most common surprise with Blue Pearl: a slab chosen from a photograph often looks wrong once it is installed under a different light.
