Granite Beauty and Functionality Unite

Granite unites beauty and function because one natural stone gives you a unique pattern and a hard, heat-tolerant, UV-stable surface, so the same material works on kitchen counters, bathroom vanities, fireplace surrounds and outdoor kitchens. The key is matching the thickness, finish and sealing to where the granite goes.

Where granite works, and what to choose for each place

  • Kitchen countertops and islands: 3 cm is the common thickness; polished is easiest to wipe, leathered hides fingerprints.
  • Bathroom vanities: 2 cm is often enough; seal it, because soap and cosmetics can stain an unsealed surface.
  • Backsplashes and feature walls: running the countertop slab up the wall keeps the pattern continuous with no grout lines.
  • Fireplace surrounds and hearths: granite tolerates the heat near a fireplace; your installer will follow the clearance rules for your fireplace.
  • Outdoor kitchens: granite is UV-stable and handles freezing; choose honed or leathered for wet areas and seal it.
  • Floors, stairs and windowsills: a honed or textured finish gives better grip than polished.

Frequently asked questions

Can granite be used outdoors?

Yes. Granite is UV-stable and handles heat and freezing well, which is why it is a common choice for outdoor kitchens. Seal it, and choose a honed or leathered finish if the surface may get wet.

What thickness of granite is used for a bathroom vanity?

2 cm granite is often used for vanities and wall applications, while 3 cm is the common thickness for kitchen countertops. Your fabricator will recommend the right thickness for the span and support.

Can granite be used on floors?

Yes, as tile or slab. A honed or textured finish gives better grip than polished, and floors need periodic resealing like any granite surface.
