What is Vancouver quartzite?

Vancouver quartzite is a natural quartzite quarried in Brazil, recognized by its soft gray background crossed by delicate, mostly linear veining. Like all true quartzite it began as sandstone and was compressed and heated into a dense, silica-based stone, which is why it combines the quiet, marble-like look of its surface with the hardness quartzite is known for. It is most often offered with a honed finish, which suits its subtle veining.

What does Vancouver quartzite look like?

The base tone is a soft, even gray rather than a bright white, and the veining is thin and linear instead of bold or dramatic. That restraint is the stone's signature: from a distance a Vancouver slab reads as a calm, uniform surface, and the fine veins only show up close. Depending on the light in the room the gray can lean slightly warm or slightly cool, so it pairs well with both white and wood-tone cabinetry.

Is Vancouver quartzite a marble or a quartzite?
