Platinum Leathered Quartzite questions
Is Platinum Leathered Quartzite in stock as a full slab?
Yes. Platinum Leathered Quartzite is stocked as full slabs at our West Allis slab gallery near Milwaukee, so you can see the complete piece — and how the pattern runs across it — before you commit. Stock moves, so call 414-998-0404 to confirm current availability.
Does Platinum Leathered Quartzite need to be sealed?
Yes. Platinum Leathered Quartzite is natural stone and takes a penetrating sealer after fabrication. Because quartzite is silica based rather than calcium based, it resists the acid etching that affects marble.
What is Platinum Leathered Quartzite best used for?
Kitchen countertops, islands, vanities and feature walls — the usual choice when a marble look is wanted on a surface that has to work for a living.
Can I buy Platinum Leathered Quartzite if I already have a fabricator?
Yes. Come to the gallery, tag the quartzite slab you want, and your fabricator collects it. We also sell directly to fabricators, builders and remodelers across the Milwaukee area on wholesale terms.

Compare Every Leathered Quartzite We Stock
Leathered quartzite is a family, not a single look. All of these are natural quartzite with a leathered finish — the texture that hides fingerprints and cuts glare — but the colour and movement are completely different. Worth comparing before you commit:
| Slab | Character |
|---|---|
| Tahiti Leathered | Warm golden and amber tones |
| Ocean Fantasy Leathered | Blue-green wave-like veining |
| Amazon Leathered | Deep green with dramatic movement |
| Crystal Tiffany Leathered | Crystalline sparkle with soft veining |
| Taj Mahal Leathered | Cream base with caramel veining |
All are stocked as full slabs in West Allis, WI. See what is on the racks today in the live inventory, or read why leathered finishes suit busy kitchens in the quartzite collection.
Which Leathered Quartzite Is Which?
Three leathered quartzites sit on the racks at the same time and they get confused constantly — the finish is identical, the stone underneath is not. All three have the same soft matte texture that hides fingerprints and glare. The difference is colour.
| Slab | Colour | |
|---|---|---|
| Tahiti | Warm browns and gold over a cream base | compare |
| Platinum (this page) | Cool greys and soft white | |
| Ocean Fantasy | Blue-green movement with white and grey | compare |
A leathered finish is brushed rather than polished, so it reads matte and slightly textured under the hand. It hides water spots and fingerprints better than a polish, and it does not change how the stone must be sealed. Photographs flatten the texture — these three are worth seeing in person at the West Allis showroom, or browse the full quartzite range.

Platinum Leathered Quartzite in Kitchens and Bathrooms
Three design visualizations showing how Platinum Leathered Quartzite reads at room scale: as a full-height kitchen backsplash, on a bathroom vanity, and on a waterfall-edge island. Each one was generated from the photograph of the actual slab on this page, so the quartzite pattern, colour and finish match the stone we stock in West Allis.

Please note: these three images are digital visualizations, not photographs of completed installations. For photographs of the real slabs, see the gallery above. Natural stone varies slab to slab — check live inventory or view your piece at the West Allis showroom.
Leathered quartzite, explained
Shoppers searching for leathered quartzite are usually asking about the finish rather than one particular stone. Here is what the finish is, how it compares to polished and honed, and what it means in daily use.
What is leathered quartzite?
Leathered quartzite is natural quartzite whose surface has been brushed with abrasive, diamond-tipped brushes after the slab is cut. The brushing removes the high-gloss reflection a polished surface has and leaves a soft, low-sheen texture that follows the stone's own grain, so the slab keeps its colour depth without acting like a mirror. It is a finish, not a separate stone type: the same quartzite can be sold polished, honed or leathered.
How is a leathered finish different from polished and honed?
All three start from the same slab and differ only in how the surface is worked. Polished is buffed to a reflective shine and shows the most colour contrast. Honed is ground flat and left matte, with no texture you can feel. Leathered sits between them: matte in sheen but textured to the touch, because the brushing follows the stone's natural pits and veining rather than flattening them.
Does leathered quartzite hide fingerprints and water spots?
Better than polished, yes. A polished surface is uniform and reflective, so every smudge, dust particle and water ring interrupts the reflection. A leathered surface scatters light across its texture instead, which visually breaks up marks. It does not make the stone stain-proof — spills still need wiping — but day-to-day it looks clean for longer, which is why it is common on islands and high-use kitchens.
Does leathered quartzite still need to be sealed?
Yes. Quartzite is silica based rather than calcium based, so it resists the acid etching that dulls marble, but it is still natural stone with some porosity and takes a penetrating sealer after fabrication. The leathered texture does not change that requirement; it changes how the surface looks and feels, not how porous the stone is.
Is leathered quartzite harder to clean than a smooth finish?
Not in normal use. It is cleaned the same way — warm water and a pH-neutral stone cleaner, avoiding acidic or abrasive products. The texture is shallow, so a cloth reaches the surface without effort. Where it does matter is with very fine powders such as flour or dry spices, which can sit in the texture and need a brush or a second pass rather than a single wipe.
